Órdenes de mercado frente a órdenes limitadas
Dos formas de entrar en el mercado: tomar el precio ahora o esperar al precio que quieres.
When you decide to trade, you must tell the broker how to enter. The two everyday tools are the market order and the limit order, and knowing when to use each is a quiet mark of a maturing trader.
A market order says: fill me right now at the best available price. Its virtue is certainty of execution — you will get in. Its cost is that you accept whatever the price happens to be at that instant, which may differ slightly from what you saw a moment ago. In fast markets that difference, called slippage, can be meaningful.
A limit order says: only fill me at this price or better. If you want to buy EUR/USD but only at 1.1030 while it currently trades at 1.1050, you place a buy limit at 1.1030 and wait. The virtue is price control — you never pay more than you intended. The cost is that the market may never reach your price, and you simply do not get the trade.
A market order prioritises time. A limit order prioritises price. Every execution decision is that one trade-off wearing a different hat.
A useful way to remember it: a market order prioritises time, a limit order prioritises price. Impatient entries into strong momentum often suit market orders; patient entries at a planned level suit limit orders. Neither is better in the abstract.
Most platforms also offer stop orders, which trigger once price passes a level — the mechanism behind a stop loss. But master the market-versus-limit distinction first. It teaches the core trade-off of all execution: certainty of fill versus certainty of price.
Conclusión clave
A market order guarantees the fill but not the price; a limit order guarantees the price but not the fill. Choose based on whether time or price matters more.
